Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD): Therefore it is used to measure the amount of certain type of organic water pollution. BOD is calculated by keeping a sample of water containing a known amount of oxygen for five days at 20 °C. The oxygen content is measured again and BOD is calculated.

The greater the BOD, the more rapidly oxygen is depleted in the stream. This means less oxygen is available to higher forms of aquatic life. The consequences of high BOD are the same as those for low dissolved oxygen: aquatic organisms become stressed, suffocate, and die

COD or Chemical Oxygen Demand is the total measurement of all chemicals in the water that can be oxidized. BOD- Biochemical Oxygen Demand is supposed to measure the amount of food (or organic carbons) that bacteria can oxidize.

COD is closely related to BOD or Biochemical Oxygen Demand, the difference being that BOD is a test of the level of organic matter that can be biologically oxidised while COD is a test of the amount of organic matter that can be chemically oxidised.

Soil permeability is the property of the soil to transmit water and air and is one of the most important qualities to consider for fish culture. A pond built in impermeable soil will lose little water through seepage. The more permeable the soil, the greater the seepage
